Ernest K. Weeden

Weeden, Ernest K. – Age 88, Lower Sackville, passed away in Northwood Ivany Place, Bedford, on August 21, 2016. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Edward and Barbara Weeden.

Ernie enjoyed life and greeted everyone with a smile. He was a member of Timberlea Masonic Lodge No. 136, an avid golfer, loved to travel, enjoyed woodworking and a good game of cards with friends. He had been employed as a draftsman for the Avro Aircraft fighter jet project and later was an instructor at NSCC IT Campus from where he retired.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia (Wilson); sons, Mark (Sue), David; daughter, Annalea; stepchildren, Robert (Denise) Wilson, Kevin (Debra) Wilson, Lisa (Ross) MacDonald, Angelia (Stephen) Fralick; grandchildren, Nicole, Josh, Vincent, Stephanie, Brittany, Rebecca, Haley and Vivian. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bonita; son, Paul; brother, Bert.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in The Church of the Good Shepherd, 28 Trinity Lane, Beaver Bank, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. A private interment will be held in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Ernie’s memory may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd.

Elizabeth “Bee” Huxtable

Huxtable, Elizabeth “Bee” – 90, died in Halifax, August 21, 2016. Born in Charminster, Dorset, England, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Lee-Norman.

She served in the WRNS in London in the Second World War as a driver for the Admiralty and emigrated to Halifax in 1955 with her husband, John Huxtable, who was an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. Throughout the 60 years she lived in Halifax, she was very actively involved in the arts and cultural life of the area. She worked as the personal assistant to Gary Karr for 10 years and she volunteered for and supported numerous organizations such as the Halifax Ladies Musical Club, Women for Music, Scotia Festival, the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, the Halifax Kiwanis Music Festival, St. Augustine’s Church Ladies Guild and Theatre Arts Guild amongst others. She played the organ at St. James Church in Herring Cove until this spring.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Anne; brother, Alexander; and John, her husband of 50 years. She is survived by her daughters, Antonia (Albert) Mahon, Comox, B.C.; and Jasmine (Bruce) Snelling, Burnham, England; and four grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Margaret Catherine Archibald

Archibald, Margaret Catherine – Age 74, Upper Musquodoboit, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Mooseland, she was the youngest daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine (Taylor) Prest.

Mom grew up in Mooseland, and attended a one-room school for her early education until grade 7; she then went to Musquodoboit Rural High School. After graduation, she   took nursing training at the then Camp Hill Veterans Hospital, Halifax. There she met our father, Billie, and they were married on October 6, 1962. Mom moved to the family farm in Upper Musquodoboit, where they raised their three children, worked, and recently lived until her illness. She pursued many interests over the years. Not only was she a hard-working farmer’s wife, she found time to be a wonderful talented seamstress, crafter and homemaker, to name but a few. She was very active in her community. When her eldest child started high school, she went back to nursing, working many hard hours of shift work from 1976 to 1991. During that time, she made and kept many cherished friendships with her co-workers. Mom’s smile and twinkling blue eyes lit every room she was in. Everyone was a “dear”, “hon”, or “honey”.

She loved and cherished her children and grandchildren, and will be forever missed by children, Nova Lee (Ken Horne), Dartmouth; Natalie Bell (Michael Fulton), Middle Musquodoboit; Trent (Heidi Higgins), Upper Musquodoboit; grandchildren, Nathan, Madelyn and Gregory Horne; Benjamin and Molly Bell; Libby and Lucy Archibald; sisters, Ramona Reynolds, Upper Musquodoboit; Norma Kennedy, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Bonnie, Joan and Alice; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Billie; son-in-law, Colin Bell; brothers-in-law, Harry, Parker, Samuel, Jimmie; sisters-in-law, Frances, Eileen and Norma.

Visitation will be Monday, 6:30-8 p.m., and funeral service will be Tuesday, at 2 p.m., both in St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.

James Michael “Jim” Dale

Dale, James Michael “Jim” – Passed away peacefully in his home with loved ones by his side, on Monday, August 15, 2016.

Jim will be greatly missed by his loving partner, Judy Robertson, and her daughters, Stephanie and Marine. Jim will always be in the hearts of his children, John and Jessie Dale; their mother, Nora Macnee; and his sisters, Norah, Barbara, and Kathy. He was predeceased by his mother, Kathleen Dale in June of this year and by his father, James Dale, Sr. (1988).

Born in Ottawa in 1955, Jim grew up in Massachusetts and spent every summer at the family camp in Damariscotta, Maine on Pemaquid Lake. Jim moved to Nova Scotia in 1976 to attend Dalhousie University where he did a Masters in biochemistry. In his early years, Jim worked as a marine biologist and later turned himself to teaching and fine woodworking. Throughout his life, he pursued his passions of music and song writing, sailing, ecology, and fine woodworking. In his younger years, Jim sailed his wooden ketch Olanda to the Bahamas after totally refitting her. Jim and Judy also sailed in remote areas in Patagonia, Chile as well as coastal Nova Scotia, and enjoyed trips hiking in Europe and the Rockies, as recently as this past June. Jim was quick to offer help to those in need and had a generous and caring soul. Being a man of so many talents, Jim has left us with many gifts, most that we do not yet recognize. He was passionate about everything he did and continued to the end to show us incredible strength and wisdom. There were so many layers to his wonderful personality and we are all so blessed to have had him in our lives. He was a true Renaissance man.

Thank you to his many friends who supported him through the past year of his illness – especially Mike Murray who kept the music alive. Thanks to the wonderful palliative team of the QEII and the VON who gave us the support necessary to keep Jim home.

Henry Fraser Moore

Moore, Henry Fraser – Age 85, Musquodoboit Harbour. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father on August 15, 2016, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Shubenacadie, he was a son of the late David and Marion Moore.

Henry was loved and respected by many and will be greatly missed by all. His social activities included golf, cards, bowling, pool and dancing. He was a member of Harbour Lites Seniors Club and was an associate member of Gaetz Brook Legion.

Surviving are his partner, Marie Young, Musquodoboit Harbour; children, Randy, Nine Mile River; Brian (Bev), Kingston, Ont.; Blair, Cow Bay; Wayne (Brenda), Eastern Passage; Lynn (Tim), Dartmouth; Heather, Eastern Passage; grandchildren, Chris (Nicole), Allie (Steve), Kaitie, Keith (Carmen), Becca, Torie and Bruce; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan and Rhett; brother, David (Judy); sisters, Eleanor and Anna.

He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Marie Streatch; son, Kevin in infancy; sisters, Mary, Barbara, Clara, Frances and Margaret.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, with Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. A reception will be held downstairs in the church followed by burial in Meaghers Grant Cemetery. Family flowers only. Norman Arthur Taylor

Taylor, Norman Arthur – Age 66, Brentwood, passed away in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on August 13, 2016, following a short battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Reta (McLeod) Taylor and the late Arthur Taylor.

Norm’s passion for trucking led to a love of travel that eventually carried him to the beaches of Mustang Island, Tex., where he and his wife spent many winters. In the past few years, his interest was focused on old cars and showing them at local car shows almost every weekend. Most of all, his love for his grandkids and children surpassed everything else.

Norm is survived by his wife, Valerie (Rafuse); children, Andrew (Anne-Marie), Juillene (Shaun McAndrew), Aaron (Sarah); grandchildren, Calem and Travis McAndrew, Nyomee Taylor, Maebea Taylor; brother, Gary (Lona); sister, Judy (Burke) Miller; numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Norm’s wishes, friends are invited to join the family on Tuesday, August 16, from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m., in Hilden Fire Hall, for a time of remembrance. Cremation has taken place with a private interment planned for a later date. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated.

James B. “Jim” McLean

McLean, James B. “Jim” – Age 82, of Truro and formerly of Dean, passed away August 12, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, with family by his side. Born in Dean, he was a son of the late Edward “Ned” and Leona (Pratt) McLean.

Jim had a varied career as a woodsman, mill operator at Mosher Limestone, then retiring from Department of Transportation. He also sold firewood, maple syrup, Christmas trees and blueberries. Jim enjoyed his many years of service with Upper Musquodoboit Volunteer Fire Department where he was Santa for the little ones. Anyone who knew him knew of his love of fiddle music, hunting, fishing, bingo and a stiff drink of black rum.

Surviving are sister, Ollie (Edmund Robichaud); sister-in-law, Loretta Suttis; brother-in-law, Gordon Estabrooks; children, Harold (Colleen), Carol, Russell, Walter, Randy (Susan), Roy, Anaita (Ken Goodie), Doug (Tracey); sons-in-law, John Frame and Terry Rogers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, the former Vera Hayden; daughter, Phyllis; siblings, Marvin, Sharon (Jack Monck), Erma; granddaughter, Tracey; great-grandson, Maverick.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Sharon Presbyterian Church, Dean, with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Joan Marina Cox

Cox, Joan Marina – Age 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully, at the home of her daughter, in Kingston, on August 10, 2016. Born in Stewiacke, she was a beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Edith (Bamford) Cox.

Joan attended Queen Elizabeth High School, after which she enjoyed a lifelong career as a customer service representative with Bank of Montreal. Her customers were as important to her as she was to them when she finally retired in 2013 from the branch at Spring Garden and Queen.

She loved to travel, whether it was overseas, trips south, or special week-end sister trips. She made every trip an experience and every experience was a joy. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. She celebrated their achievements, attended their sporting activities, and looked forward to being with them at Christmas. She loved Halifax and everything it had to offer. When she wasn’t golfing, skiing, or walking, she was enjoying life with her dear friends and family.

She was graceful, classy, and beautiful inside and out, and will be missed by her daughter, Kathleen (Stephen) Boates, Kingston; grandsons, Alex, Edmonton; Brian, San Francisco; John, Toronto; sisters, Patsy MacDonald, Glen Haven; Margaret Matheson, South Branch; brothers, Bill (Shirley), South Branch; Ralph (Judy), Trenton; John (Ellen), Hammonds Plains; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Kathleen Lorette and Judy Edwards; Kathleen Anne’s father, Robert “Bob” Brown.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 p.m., and funeral service will be Wednesday, at 1 p.m., both in St. James Anglican Church, Shubenacadie, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating. Gerald “Gerry” Norman O’Neil

O’Neil, Gerald “Gerry” Norman – Age 76, of Truro, passed away August 9, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Rupert and Helen (Wright) O’Neil.

Gerry was a veteran in the army, serving in Germany in the late 1950’s. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro. Gerry enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Tanya Urquhart, Troy, Scott, Alana O’Neil; 15 grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Helen); nieces, Paula and Heather.

Cremation has taken place. A Legion Tribute Service will be held on Friday, at 2 p.m., in Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro, followed by a reception. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Memorial donations may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia.

Donald Hugh Lindsay

Lindsay, Donald Hugh – Age 76, East Stewiacke, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2016, at home, surrounded by family. Born in East Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Hugh and Ella (Conroy) Lindsay.

Surviving are son, Stephen (Edwina), Truro; Susan (Kevin), Lake Echo; Sheryl (Terry), Middle Musquodoboit; sisters, Barb Crawford, New Glasgow, Leona (Jack) Murphy, Truro, Erma Fraser, Bridgewater; sister-in-law, Josephine Lindsay, Oshawa.

Dad was an electrician by trade and spent many years at Gil-Son Construction in Halifax where he made lifelong friends. Dad enjoyed hunting at the camp, attending the bluegrass festival, hockey games, and especially the Montreal Canadiens. The happiest times in his life were spent with his grandchildren, Chris (Kelsey), Kaleigh (Tim), Lindsay, Kenneth, Kendra (Justin), Nick (Keely), Alisha and Chloe, as well as close friend and nephew, Danny (Sandra) Chaplin. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (O’Brien); brother, Doug; sister, Marion Chaplin.

Harold Joseph “Joe” Malcolm

Malcolm, Harold Joseph “Joe” – It is with deep, profound sadness and loss that we announce the sudden passing of Joe Malcolm, age 78, on the evening of August 6, 2016 in Dartmouth General Hospital with family at his side.  Born on October 2, 1937, in Sunnyside, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Harold and Bessie (Cummings) Malcolm.

He is predeceased by his wife and best friend, Elizabeth (Hudson); and sister, Dorothy “Dot”.  Surviving are sisters, Geraldine, Anne (Murray), and Mary Theresa (Bernie). He will be missed by his children, Donnie, Jim (Angela), Ronnie (Joan), Cheryl (Mark), Timmy (Debbie), and Shelly; grandchildren, Jessica, Katrina, Coady, Zach, Travis, Tyler, Amanda, and Savanna; great-grandchildren, Julia and Wayne.  He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Joe worked for over 30 years at the Port of Halifax, and was a huge fan of hockey and baseball. His favorite teams were the Montreal Canadians and the former Montreal Expos. Dad was a very private man and he loved his family dearly. He often told stories and spoke about his younger years growing up in Cape Breton.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank our sister, Shelly, for the great care she provided Dad over the last several years.

In keeping with Dad’s request, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. The family will have a private gathering in celebration of Dad’s life.

Jennex, Judith Geraldine

Jennex, Judith Geraldine – Age 71. Passed away peacefully on July 28, 2016 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in Musquodoboit Harbour surrounded by her family. She was born in West Petpeswick, daughter of the late Harris White Anderson and Jessie May (Bayers).

She loved to gather with family at any opportunity and especially loved to spend time in the woods, fishing, golfing, bowling and also baking for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Cyril Burton Jennex; her children, Howard (Tanya) Jennex (Kayla, Malcolm, pet Sprocket), Diane (Fulton) Power (Wayne, Brian, Bradley, pet Lady), Michelle (Charles) Muise (Justin, Travis, Joey, Kelly, pets Sammy, Fader), and four great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by brothers, Ted (Shirley) Anderson, Eric (Margie) Anderson, and sisters, Eunice (Frank) Vaughan, Eileen (Ken) Cooper, Lorianne (Murray) Sibley. She is survived by brothers, Dale Anderson, Darrel (Kay) Anderson and sisters, Edna (Herbert) Stoddard, Gloria (Manny) Baker.

There will be a family burial in East Jeddore Cemetery on Tuesday, August 2 and a gathering at her home for family and friends at 3 p.m.

Baker, Wray K.

Baker, Wray K. – Age 78, East Jeddore, passed away July 27, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Avis (Arnold); children, Sylvia (Ernie), Stanley, Michael (Donna), Wayne (Cindy), Sheila (Leo); grandchildren, Josh, Samantha, Cody, Brett, Jeff, Dylan and Monica; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Mila, Emma, and one on the way. He is also survived by sister, Helen.

He was the son of the late Evangeline (Baker) and stepson of Albert Arnold.

Wray was employed with Nova Scotia Power for 33 years.

The family would like to thank Trish and Belinda and the other Wee Care workers for all their help and support. We couldn’t have done it without you all. Also thank you to the staff in Twin Oaks Hospital.

Cremation has taken place, and burial will be at a later date. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 31 from 1-4 p.m. at the family home. Donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society.

Belanger, Dorothy Elizabeth

Belanger, Dorothy Elizabeth – Age 89, Truro, passed away on July 25, 2016 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Garrard) Bonham.

Surviving are her daughter, Laurie (Donald Craig) White, Hilden; grandchildren, Cindy Hill, Christopher Landsburg; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Kayla and Natalie Hill; great-great grandchild, River Archer, one niece and nephew. She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her only child, Leslie Dobbs; second husband, Hector Belanger; brother, John Bonham.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Truro’s First United Church Restoration Fund.

Bayers, Alida

Bayers, Alida – Age 89, East Petpeswick, passed away on July 17, 2016, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Zutphen, Holland, she was a daughter of the late Gerrit and Aaltjen (Brands) van der Heide.

Alida came to Canada as a war bride and had many careers over her lifetime. She was a fisherman, teacher, farmer, cashier at a bakery, cook and a homemaker. In Alida’s words, “I’ve had a full life.” She was a member of First United Church and, while living in Port Elgin, sang in the choir and was a soloist.

Surviving are her children, Gary (Edith) Trenholm, Grace Vokey, Charles (Eleanor) Trenholm, Franklin (Theresa) Trenholm; stepson, Jeff Bayers, stepson-in-law, Larry Oliver; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Trenholm; second husband, Wendell Bayers; twin daughters, Rebecca and Rachel, in infancy; granddaughter, Lona Vokey; brothers, Garrit, Oeds, Carl and Johan; stepdaughter, Wendy Oliver.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, Rev. Iain Macdonald officiating. Guild, Myrtle Josephine

Guild, Myrtle Josephine – Age 84, Middle Musquodoboit, passed away July 14, 2016, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Jessie (Elliott) Smith.

Myrtle was always active in the community and volunteered regularly at Braeside Nursing Home where she called bingo and sang in the Monday choir. She was a member of Middleton United Church where she was part of the UCW and church choir.

Surviving are her daughters, Patsy (Brian) Leslie, Dartmouth; Robin (Benny) Hutchinson, Elmsvale; sisters, Shirley MacLellan, Milford; Marilyn Smith, Stewiacke; brothers, Russell (Audree), Milford; Paul, Truro; Gary (Judy), Stewiacke; sisters-in-law, Judy, Stewiacke East; Fran, Stewiacke; Muriel, Brookfield; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; brothers, Stan, Havey, Emmerson, Larry, Wilfred and Michael; brother-in-law, Frank MacLellan; sisters-in-law, Helen, Janine, Melissa.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 19, at 2 p.m. in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. Burial to follow in Pioneer Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. Friends are welcome to a reception downstairs in the church following the burial. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Musquodoboit Valley Health Foundation – Hospital or Braeside Nursing Home.

Power, Leslie Francis “Les”

Power, Leslie Francis “Les” – It is with profound sadness that we announce that Leslie Francis "Les" Power passed away peacefully on July 11, 2016, in Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Halifax on March 9, 1925, he was the last of ten children born to the late Leslie T. and Emma (White) Power.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Blackburn) in 1993; his second wife, Helen (Josey) White Power in 2001; and siblings, Cyril, Ralph, Edward, Sedley, Dorothea, Eileen, Mildred, Gertrude and Shirley. He is survived by sons, Stephen (Barbara), Halifax; Richard, London, Ont.; grandchildren, Shauna Power (Ryan Stevens), Truro; Matthew Power (Amber Quartermain), Bedford; and great-grandson, Finn Stevens.

Les retired in 1982 from the Halifax Fire Department and was very proud of his 36-year career as a firefighter/first responder. Les was a kind and gentle man who always had a smile on his face and story ready for the telling (usually of the "tall tale" variety). He had the amazing ability to coax a smile out of just about everybody. He will be especially missed by his son Stephen with whom he shared a special bond.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Dad's wishes, there will be no funeral. A reception will be held in his memory on Sunday, July 17 in Knights of Columbus Hall, 252 Cobequid Rd., Lower Sackville from 6-8:30 p.m. A graveside committal service will be held Monday, July 18 at 10 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakwood Terrace or a charity of your choice.

Deyarmond, Lester Richard “Dick”

Deyarmond, Lester Richard “Dick” – Age 77 of Stewiacke East, passed away July 8, 2016, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Upper Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Raymond and Isabel (Power) Deyarmond.

Dick served overseas on peacekeeping duty in Germany and Cyprus, returning to Petawawa, Ont. for some time. He moved back to Nova Scotia and, for a brief time, worked for Mosher Limestone before beginning a career with Nova Scotia Liquor Commission. Following his retirement, Dick was out in the community socializing and playing cards at every opportunity.

Surviving are his son, Douglas (Sheila); grandson, Justin; sister, Carmitta Kennedy; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Myrna Graham; sister, Betty Graham; brothers, Bill, and Stewart in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Wednesday, 7-9 p.m., and funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m., both in Sharon United Church, Stewiacke East, with Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Sharon United Church.

Caldwell (Wright, Higgins), Clara Lillian

Caldwell (Wright, Higgins), Clara Lillian – Of Hilden. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on June 30, 2016, in her 94th year.

She was predeceased by her parents, Burton and Edna (Fisher) Wright; two children in infancy; husbands, Oscar Higgins, (Meadowvale); and Keith Caldwell, (Port Alberni/Victoria, B.C.); son, Gary Higgins; daughter-in-law, Donna; granddaughter, Wanda (all of Victoria); siblings, Melvin, Shirley, Evelyn, Marguerite and Helen. Surviving are siblings, Lena, Kingston, Ont.; Lloyd, Brookfield; Eric (Trudy), Appleton, Nfld., and Wayne (Elaine), Riverview, N.B. She is remembered by her son, Lester (Ada) Higgins, Middle Stewiacke; daughters, Jean (Paul) Hicks, Fredericton; Faye Higgins, Hilden; grandchildren, Vincent Higgins, Pembroke, Ont.; Susan Higgins, Middle Stewiacke; Cecil Higgins, Victoria, B.C.; Wade Higgins, Parksville, B.C.; Jason (Janice) Hicks, Fredericton; Darren (Crystal) Hicks, Fredericton; and her many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be greatly missed by her card-playing pals.

Clara resided in two provinces. She had been an active member of the United Church, and in Victoria, worked tirelessly as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, golfing and visiting. Her last two years were spent living in Truro in Cedarstone Enhanced Living, where the nurses always knew that Clara would be outdoors walking and enjoying the weather, if they couldn't find her in her room. Her family wishes to thank the staff for their courtesy, cheerfulness and helpfulness to Clara, and to us, during this period of her life, and for making her last home a pleasant experience. Gratitude from her family to Dr. Chris Cook for his kind attendance over her.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. in Hilden United Church, Hilden, with Keith Selwyn-Smith officiating, followed by a reception. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hilden United Church or Cedarstone Resident Council, Purdy Lane. A private family interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke.
