Scott, Irene Margaret – Age 92, Newcomb Corner, passed away peacefully February 10, 2016 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. She had resided the past five years in Ivany Place, Bedford. Irene was born in Higginsville and lived there for most of her life. She taught school in Higginsville for many years until she stayed at home to care for her mother, father, and in later years, her brother, during their ill health. Irene enjoyed helping people and for a few years, worked for the HRM as a homemaker. She was a traveler and made several excursions throughout Canada and the U.S. with family and friends. Irene was a life member of Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron and Grand Marshall of the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Maude (Sinclair) Redmond; brothers, Victor and Burris. She is survived by her son, Gary (Beverley); granddaughters, Jennifer, Jacqueline (Derek Land), Stephanie (Paul Gorman); three great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; sister, Louise Logan; sister-in-law, Molly Redmond; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Riverside United Church, Elmsvale, Rev. Dr. Linda Yates officiating. A reception will follow downstairs in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
