Palmer (Gillam), Hilda Martha – Age 96. It is with heavy hearts the family of Hilda Martha Palmer, of Musquodoboit Harbour, announces her passing on February 5, 2015, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour, after a brief illness. Born July 10, 1918, in St. David’s, Nfld., she was the eldest daughter of the late Kenneth and May (McKay) Gillam. A very special lady, Mom was in her glory preparing for family get-togethers, or entertaining friends with a tune on her harmonica. She loved hitting the dance floor with Dad, her favourite dance partner, and playing cards, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by daughters, Zona Hutt, Sheet Harbour; Linda (Bruce) Grainger, Cole Harbour; Brenda Palmer, Musquodoboit Harbour; Paula (Brian) Dooks, Head of Jeddore; sister-in-law, Florence Gillam, St. David’s; grandchildren, Shauna, Brian, Ken, Joel, Jenna, Nicola, nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Hilda was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Maxwell Palmer; sisters and their spouses, Mabel (Ted) Hosking, Ida (James) Mitchell; brother, Noah; son-in-law, Robert Hutt.
No visitation by request. Funeral service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Musquodoboit Harbour, Rev. Trish Ingram officiating. Interment will held at a later date in St. Thomas Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Twin Oaks/The Birches Health Care Charitable Foundation, or charity of choice.
The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers of The Birches Nursing Home (Mom always referred to you as her special angels) for their kind and considerate care over the past year, and doctors and nurses of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital for their care during her short stay there.
